We begin our third year of course development in Montessori Live!
by Kym Elder - Saturday, 8 November 2008, 07:45 PM
  Welcome!

Over the past few years, we have learned a great deal about providing a meaningful educator training program in the Montessori method. We have learned more about helping our students balance both personal and professional lives. Our courses are presented during the school year as well as throughout the summer, allowing educators to practice as they learn.

We are expanding our curriculum courses from 8 weeks to 15 weeks to allow for more practice and reflection as new materials are presented. Unlike summer training programs, our courses blend with the school year, providing an important frame of reference for a facilitated study of the Montessori method.

Lesson and lecture videos provide important support to our students as they perfect their skills. We have heard that our students love this new model of training for its depth, convenience, as well as its flexibility.

Beginning in January 2009, Montessori Live will offer the following courses designed to support beginning elementary educators working with students ages 5 - 10 (grades kindergarten through grade 4):

For Educators:
Foundations of Montessori Philosophy - 10 weeks (required first course)
Observation – 10 weeks (required second course)
Elementary Language I - 15 weeks
Elementary Language II - 15 weeks
Elementary Math  I - 15 weeks
Teaching Practicum – 15 weeks

Future courses:
Elementary Math II
Cultural Studies for the Elementary Child
Early Childhood and Middle School Overview
Introduction to the Montessori Method for Students
Montessori for Educational Leaders

Currently for parents:
Parentcator Lectures (10 lectures)

Montessori is both an instructional method as well as a philosophy of teaching. One provides the content; the other provides the context. In order for students to benefit most, educators need to become the master of both. However, knowing how to use the materials is limited without understanding the philosophical framework of Dr. Montessori's seminal work on child development and early education. This philosophical understanding is critical even to educators of upper elementary and secondary students.

All educator courses will include video review, essays and written reflections, chats, video conferencing, and projects. Individual assignments will consist of reflections on lectures or assigned readings, as well as reflections on how the course content might impact an educator's personal growth.

Thanks for spreading the word about Montessori Live, an adult friendly model of educator training that works within your personal schedule and responsibilities, as well as supports the development excellent Montessori environments for your students.
